Royal Doulton Old English Sheepdog which is quite rare with the Royal Doulton mark as Royal Doulton purchased the Beswick porcelain company who were well known for their quality representations of animals and birds. Royal Doulton believed that their famous name and background would improve sales and although the Beswick moulds were used the Royal Doulton backstamp was applied to the product. The expected boost to the sales didn’t eventuate as the quality animals were known as Beswick animals and not Royal Doulton hence the Royal Doulton animals are quite rare as their production was short lived and the backstamp reverted back to Beswick.
This old English sheepdog displays the Royal Doulton backstamp.

The Figure is more commonly seen with the Beswick backstamp. They were produced in both Matt glaze and high gloss. This example is Matt glaze and we also have a Beswick one with gloss finish.

The figure is in excellent as new condition.
