Unusual early hand carved Chinese camphor wood chest blanket box or clothes storage.  The box has high quality carvings in an intricate design to the front and top, with applied decorative carved traditional Chinese figures to the other surfaces.

The camphor wood gives natural protection from insect attack on the stored clothes and blankets.
