SHELLEY ‘ BLUEBIRD OF HAPPINESS ‘ cup saucer plate trio
This interesting piece of Autraliana is a hand painted SHELLEY cup saucer and plate set featuring the the flying bluebird ‘Emblem of Happiness’. The product was commissioned for the Australian market by Babarfalds furniture and homewares emporium in Sydney.
Baberfalds became famous for their high quality sewing machines that they introduced in 1917 which were branded Blue Bird, and they became well known for their elegant timber cabinets some depicting leadlight glass panels featuring the bluebird pattern.
This particular item was offered as a promotion with the purchase of a Bluebird sewing machine.
The base has the special backstamp which dates the piece from 1925.
An interesting sewing collectable.
Condition is good for the age with no chips cracks or repairs.
